About me
My name is Rosie Stokes. I’m a specialist dyslexia teacher and assessor, and I’ve been a qualified teacher for over 20 years, working with children of many different ages in schools across Essex and Southend.
I’m also a qualified SENCO, having completed the National Award in Special Educational Needs Co-ordination. Working as a SENCO taught me how support in school really works, what makes a report genuinely useful to teachers, and how much it matters to families to feel listened to.
Dyslexia runs in my own family. Several of my relatives were diagnosed at different points, at school, at university and at work, and I’ve seen first-hand the difference that understanding makes.
I now carry out full diagnostic dyslexia assessments for children and young people aged 8 to 25, from primary school through to college, university, apprenticeships and the early years of work.
My qualifications
✔ Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in Specialist Teaching and Assessment for Dyslexia (AMBDA) from Canterbury Christ Church University. This is the specialist qualification for carrying out full diagnostic dyslexia assessments.
✔ Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), awarded by the British Dyslexia Association (BDA). This confirms I’m qualified to carry out diagnostic assessments, including the assessments students need to apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance at university.
✔ Full member of PATOSS (the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties), which reflects my commitment to good practice and ongoing professional development.
✔ National Award in Special Educational Needs Co-ordination (qualified SENCO).
✔ Enhanced DBS check, so I’ve had the safeguarding checks needed to work with children and young people. You can find out more about the Disclosure and Barring Service on GOV.UK.
